I am back from this wedding in Exttremadura and just noticed the final results of the AMF Cup. A few different factors kept me away from the Tournaments. Job, wedding and mi left ankle, so I couldn't go to the bowling centers.
Handicap winners was the very young Oscar Serrano (Alyco). He, after defeating pacorro, Erwin Pascual and Mark Castillo on the final got this great victory. It only confirm that he is in shape and that is having an amazing begging of the season.
Despite this good news, the polemic come on the scratch scores. It is disgusting for us. It is because we have talked about it some days ago. And, especially, because one of the affected is William Medellin.
Williamd and Erwin tied after 12 games. Yes, it is bad luck, but shit happens. Who is the winner? Actually it seems it doesn't matter because the Organizing Committee, quoting the rules' final paragraph has decided that the winner of the trip to the Hermosillo World Cup is Erwin Pascual, because William has not yet the Spanish nationality.
The paragraph says: "Any aspect that cope up during the tournament that is not considered in this regulations will be clear up by the Organizing Committee"
What is this unconsidered aspect? On OCtober 11 we wrote in this blog:
Qualification round will continue during the week before next Sunday's big final. Scratch winners (six qualification gamesplus 6 finales games) both in men and women divisioon, will participate, according to the rules, at the Hermosillo World Cup next fall.
I just hace one doubt. Sules says that winners "will represent Spain". But, given that Catalonia will send players to the World Cup and that the World Cupt itself is a private event organised by aprivate brand, Spanish representation will be "unoficial".
I mean, given that it is supposed that no official License will be requiered and that AECB players will be allow to play as FCBB members are.
But I am not pretty sure. By the way, the Tournament Rules are talking about "representing Spain" but they don't say at all that the Spanish nationality is a must. Could foreign players represent Spain?
I think this is not the most important thing, but I am not sure about these answers. Anyway, the Tournament itself is good new. This kind of event shouldn't dissapear of our calendars.
And, as we were afriad of, it happened. William Medellin, player with Spanish nationality has tied with one (Erwin) Spaniard. Rules expains clearly the way to break the tie: that is, the minor difference between higher and lower game on all 12 games.
Right now final scores are not poste of the torunament's web site, but we think that William is the winner. He has a difference of 60 pins (198-259) and Erwin, if we are not wrong, has a high game over 260 and a lower game of 200.
At the bowling centers, some people said that makes sense that the winner should be Spaniard, and William is not yet. But... we really think that logic is not the most important this but the rules themselves.
In the past editions of this tournaments rules said, clearly, that Spanish nationality was a must. Not this time. It can be a mistake, yes. But given that the tournament is organised by a private brand, nationality is not a must. Or it shouldn't be.
It is a private event. A world one, yes, but private. It is not a FIQ.organized one so the same rules won't apply. It is under private law umbrella.
At the Football WorldChampionship National Teams compete and all the payers must have the nationality of the country. But, if we talk about a World Clubs Event, let's say, all the Real Madrid players are not Spaniards. As not are all Germans on the Bayer Munich. The hay instead the country's licence.
William lives and plays here and so has done for may years so my point is that he could repersent Spain. And the same apply for Serge Frouvelle. Actually, when I posted this on the blog I was thinking in him and the possibily of his winning. And in this case I wuld be deffending the same idea. A guy that plays every tourtnament in Spain can reppresent us worlwide. With or without passport.
if finally Williams is the winner we think it would be unfair and improper not giving him the credit and the price he deserves. If there is a mistake on the rules it's not his fault and shouldn't be punished for that. And, especially, with rude words.
Anyway, our compliments to Dulce, the atonishing female winner, and to Erwin. Winner or not he did a pretty good tournament and his final reaction today was impressive.
What do you think about it?
UPDATE
Tournament scores are already online and William is the winner.
