Vaguada's impressions

As I did promise some days ago, here I post a few word abot the oil pattern of the Vaguada Tournament.

I did play yesterday and my score was 1239 (1269 including handicap): is it going to be enough for making the cut? I hope so, but I'm not pretty sure.

Currently I am 9th, and only Erwin beats me scracth. What does it mean? Easy: the players with high scores are players with handicap, ant that means, once again, that the lane condiction is not easy.

Given that, my impressions were the opposite. I found the lane pretty easy. It was not a House pattern, not at all, but I had no problems for finding the pocket.

Despite past experiences in this bowling center, even the line is similar, we can find more opcions. Perhaps I missed some oil inside, but definitely it has more that last year and that help the ball to go down the lane before hooking. At least for the first 4 games. After that, it gets some complicated.

Myself, following Pablo Barriopedro's wise advice, wen to the bowling center with many different balls and ready to use them. And I did! In the 4th game I scored around 220 using... 4 different balls!

I started with my Cherry Vibe, switched to a Track Equation (second hand and polished) and tried my Kinetic. But I finished the game with a Ebonite SR300. Ironically I "only" scored 209 and 199, but with thousand of strikes!

I bowled inside, with power on my wrist and searching for a breakpint not so outside. I was able to score over 200, yes, but leaving a solid 8-10 and a solid 5-7 on the same pair...

Waht is clear to mea is that outside is not a good place. You must keep 6 games so accurate, so is not the way.

Any doubt or comment?

European Championships. Spain: game over

Yesterday started in the German city of Duisburg (and more precisley at Achim Grabowski's bowling center) the European Individual Championship 2008.

And, as we knew, Catalonia, but not Spain, is participating.

Raúl Galvez and Sandra Torrents (curiosly, both have represented Spain early this year) have already started, but without good scores.

Raul's average is 195 (19º), while Sandra, with 183.5 is in position 24º after the first block.

So far from Dutch Marieke de Jong, 224 average, and the other 9 players bowling over 200. And more even from Jean-Marc Lebon, who leads male division with 233 of average.

By the way, Grabowsky is currently 9th (206 average), and Sami Konstery, from Finlad has shot 299!

¿Is it a surprise that Spain is not bowling in Germany? No, of course it is not. After losing the appeal to the FIQ and to the Tas, the Spanish Federation has no more place to appeal to.

Well. Wat wait, actually the had one more! The problem is that... the have lose over there as well.

Here you can read the sentence both in French and English/Spanish

Not the sport not the civil justice has worked for the Feb. It seem pretty evident that the solution to this impass is not coming from the international way. Catalonia is gonna keep sending players to international events, so Spanish directives has just 2 options: accept it and send the national team anyway or not to send players anymore.

What would you do? I am not afraid to say that I have no idea. It doesen't seem realistic that on the shor run Spain and Catalonia will compete agains each other on a European or World Champsionship.

Election on the Spanish Federation (we are in a Olympic year) are close. José Luis Boto presence (actually, his lack of presence) is a big obstacle for de development of bowling in our country. Will he win again? Rumors sat so, and it's very sad.

The electoral process is so complicated that makes impossible for bowling lovers to put things in order. "Tyranny" rules and inefficiency follows.

Bowling has no many people with the will to work hard and free for it. Elections are undergoing. We can't do a lot, but we can do something.

(Controversial) AMF results

I am back from this wedding in Exttremadura and just noticed the final results of the AMF Cup. A few different factors kept me away from the Tournaments. Job, wedding and mi left ankle, so I couldn't go to the bowling centers.

Handicap winners was the very young Oscar Serrano (Alyco). He, after defeating pacorro, Erwin Pascual and Mark Castillo on the final got this great victory. It only confirm that he is in shape and that is having an amazing begging of the season.

Despite this good news, the polemic come on the scratch scores. It is disgusting for us. It is because we have talked about it some days ago. And, especially, because one of the affected is William Medellin.

Williamd and Erwin tied after 12 games. Yes, it is bad luck, but shit happens. Who is the winner? Actually it seems it doesn't matter because the Organizing Committee, quoting the rules' final paragraph has decided that the winner of the trip to the Hermosillo World Cup is Erwin Pascual, because William has not yet the Spanish nationality.

The paragraph says: "Any aspect that cope up during the tournament that is not considered in this regulations will be clear up by the Organizing Committee"

What is this unconsidered aspect? On OCtober 11 we wrote in this blog:

Qualification round will continue during the week before next Sunday's big final. Scratch winners (six qualification gamesplus 6 finales games) both in men and women divisioon, will participate, according to the rules, at the Hermosillo World Cup next fall.

I just hace one doubt. Sules says that winners "will represent Spain". But, given that Catalonia will send players to the World Cup and that the World Cupt itself is a private event organised by aprivate brand, Spanish representation will be "unoficial".

I mean, given that it is supposed that no official License will be requiered and that AECB players will be allow to play as FCBB members are.

But I am not pretty sure. By the way, the Tournament Rules are talking about "representing Spain" but they don't say at all that the Spanish nationality is a must. Could foreign players represent Spain?

I think this is not the most important thing, but I am not sure about these answers. Anyway, the Tournament itself is good new. This kind of event shouldn't dissapear of our calendars.

And, as we were afriad of, it happened. William Medellin, player with Spanish nationality has tied with one (Erwin) Spaniard. Rules expains clearly the way to break the tie: that is, the minor difference between higher and lower game on all 12 games.

Right now final scores are not poste of the torunament's web site, but we think that William is the winner. He has a difference of 60 pins (198-259) and Erwin, if we are not wrong, has a high game over 260 and a lower game of 200.

At the bowling centers, some people said that makes sense that the winner should be Spaniard, and William is not yet. But... we really think that logic is not the most important this but the rules themselves.

In the past editions of this tournaments rules said, clearly, that Spanish nationality was a must. Not this time. It can be a mistake, yes. But given that the tournament is organised by a private brand, nationality is not a must. Or it shouldn't be.

It is a private event. A world one, yes, but private. It is not a FIQ.organized one so the same rules won't apply. It is under private law umbrella.

At the Football WorldChampionship National Teams compete and all the payers must have the nationality of the country. But, if we talk about a World Clubs Event, let's say, all the Real Madrid players are not Spaniards. As not are all Germans on the Bayer Munich. The hay instead the country's licence.

William lives and plays here and so has done for may years so my point is that he could repersent Spain. And the same apply for Serge Frouvelle. Actually, when I posted this on the blog I was thinking in him and the possibily of his winning. And in this case I wuld be deffending the same idea. A guy that plays every tourtnament in Spain can reppresent us worlwide. With or without passport.

if finally Williams is the winner we think it would be unfair and improper not giving him the credit and the price he deserves. If there is a mistake on the rules it's not his fault and shouldn't be punished for that. And, especially, with rude words.

Anyway, our compliments to Dulce, the atonishing female winner, and to Erwin. Winner or not he did a pretty good tournament and his final reaction today was impressive.

What do you think about it?

UPDATE

Tournament scores are already online and William is the winner.

New Leagues in Madrid

We have just posted at LosRascadores.com a new banner with the info of the new Trios Leagues that Bolo 11 is prepairing in Madrid.

There are 4 different leagues with a common big final. The schedule is from Monday to Tuesday nights at 4 bowling centers: Rivas, Alegra, Plenilunio and Kinepolis.

You can read al the info clicking on the banner.

We like this leagues. Lately, in Spain we have plenty of "OPEN" tournaments, with high prices, but high entry price as well and they are not the best competition for begginers.

A weekly league that combine fun and learning can be the best way for news players to jooin our sport

Good luck with this project!

Spanish Doubles Championships (final results)

The winners in the Male's First Division were Juan Pablo Alonso and William Medellín. Runner-ups and team mates were Ballesteros and Barriopedro, after a big effort.
After 3 games they were ahead of Ocando and PAscul by 191 pins. But the Ilicitano couple finally woke up and arrieved to the final game far (80 pins) but with some chances.

Their performance was great, with 460 in the last game, so the Capital couple was forced to score 380 or over for taking the silver medal. They started bad but after 5 strikes in a rowe by Pablo with his infamous "Wizard" the were able of scoring over 400.

No news and no emotion in the girls division. Alejandra Sandoval and Dulce Fernández won the event. Virginia Esteban and Carmen Romero finished in second position.
The same happened in second and third divisions, with previous leaders capturing titles.

Generally speaking, the championships was kind of boring, becauase this format doesn't help when oe time is so ahead.

You can watch all the pictures and check the scores clicking here.

Copa de España AMF 2008

The qualification round of the Copa AMF España 2008 is underway at the Alegra Bowling Center, in Madrid.

Scores are avaiable (PDF) at the special web site of the AECB Madrid Delegation.

So many pins were knocked down the very first day. We must remember that the handicap that is going to be use in this tournament is not the usual one. But even with this differece, we have up to 4 of the 28 participants with scores over 1300. And 13 out fo 28 over 1200.

Leading the tournament is Jesus Cambronero (Galaxy( with 1339. Folowing him, just one pin behind, José Luis Ricote (Vaguada)

Spanish Doubles Championship

A few minutes ago, the first squad of the Spanish Doubles Championshop finished. As we noticed, open the ball ver the 10th board is not a very good idea, because the reaction then is absolutely unstable.

It can hook a lot or go completely straigh. The scores shows up that the lanes are not easy at all. Leading today is Manuel Priego with 1177. In second position Pablo Morlanes (1171) and third Erwin Pascual (1168).

Tomorrow morning group II will start at 09,.00, having the second squad at 15.00. Group I will play again and noon.

October Tournaments

This post was originally published in Spanish some days ago. October is full of tournaments and championships and it's a good moment for reckoning some of them. Actually, October is underway so let's take a view.

Later this week, in Alicante (East coast) will be played the National Doubles Championship. You can find all the information, rules, schedule and oil patter here.

Next week bowlers will be so busy. In first place we have the II Trofeo Ciudad de Lugo. We posted the tournament rules long ago with the advertising poster.

But, next week too, in Madrid will be played the national qualification for the Qubica-AMF World Cup.

The tournament will be held in Alegra Bowling Center, as it was schedule duuring the summer, but with different rules. You can read all the info here. The oil patter is avaiable too, but, to be honest, we can't understand it. Probably there were some mistakes.

The Hermosillo World Cup oil patter is avaiable on the official web site, but perhaps it not easy to understand for not-pundits.

We will post the scores daily, as any other information we can find.

Last, and despite we don't have any news abut the rules, during the last week of the moment, it is supposed that in Oviedo will be played the Principado Open. As soon as possible we'll tell more.

Report and pictures of the Barcelona IBPSIA seminar

Acamos de subir a la web una pequeña crónica de Carlos Velasco sobre el curso de la IBPSIA (International Bowling Pro Shop and Instructors Association) al que fueron él y William Medellí hace dos semanas en Barcelona.

It has been posted, together with some pictures, both in Spanish and English, on the NEWS section of LosRascadores.com,

Está colgada, junto a algunas fotos del seminario, en español y en inglés, en LosRascadores.com, en la columa de la derecha de novedades.

Schedule and oil pattern for the National Doubles Championship

You can already check the rules, schedule and oil pattern of the forthcoming National Doubles Champions on the web sites of the Spanish Bowling Federation and the Valencian Bowling Federation

Our information is that the oil pattern won't be the same used some weeks in the same bowling center for the Semana del Bowling del Club Costablanca. The oil distance is now 38 feet instead of 37, and the total ammount is around 19 ml. The bowling center staff has said the will try to keep the backends as cleas as posible in each squad.

We wish it will work, At least we are noticing some effots, both int he organization and the bowling center, for fixing previous mistakes.

We will arrive there on Friday nigh for starting competition on Saturday morning. If we can find some free time between trips, squads, lunch time, rest etc, we'll post results and news.

Good luck to all participants !

Analysys of the Sport Project

I have just posted on LosRascadores.com my analysis of the Sport Project of the Spanish Bowling Federation. This piece is just my opinion. Not all Los Rascadores do we share all of the opinions expressed here.

In this paper I try to explain what the worst flaws of the Project are. A Project that, instead resolvind doubts, let to may thing on the air

What do you thing about it? And about the ranking?

Reflections on the last tournament (Bilbao)

I have already posted my report-reflection on the last tournament. You can read it on the NEWS section of LosRascadores.com (Spanish only, sorry)

Everytime I do this kind of report doubts come to me: is it to long? is it to short? Anobody can give me and advice? Normally I prefer posting this stuff on the web and not in the blog itself. Blog posts should be always as short as possible and link up to more information.

But, given that I am wondering what do you prefer. Longer or shorter pieces? With more facts or opinion? Giving a general overview or just talking about specific players?

We accept (and pray for) any suggestion for forthcoming reports.

Regarding the tournament itself, do you have any comment?

Grande Sergio!

Serge Frouvelle, even it remains 3 frames for finishing the game, is already the winner of the V Memorial Luis Seisas.

After a strong end on the semifinal round, with a high last game of 258, as he often does, "Sergio" defeated Juan Carlos Calva with an amazing 276 game an, on the championship match, defeteaded Santiago Fernández as well, with "just" 245.

Grande Sergio!

You can check the final round scores here.

We are leaving now the bowling center. We hace a road trip so I will put a more complet repport tonight Sorry for beeing so plain now but I must harry up, the car is leaving!

Cut in Bilbao

The cut, here in Bilbao, was finally 1286. Not as high as we thought, but high in anycase. The first guy out of the finals is Felipe Redondo, with 1286 too.

You can check the scores here.

It's very surprising noticing that "regular finalist" like Erwin Pascual, Mark Castillo, marco Vinicio, William Medellín or Diego de la Barrera missed the cut. Some of theme were close by and others not, but it's curious that they won't bowl tomorrow.

In the last squad, Alejandro Arjonilla was impressive, with 1328 including a 170 in the last game. So was Timo Moran. Tino (Omerta Club), was 173 over in the first 3 games, with a high of 278. He had some problems adjusting on the new pair, but finally he managed his cushion and finished with 1338.

Finals will start tomorrow morning at 09.00 Good luck to all the finalist!!

Scores untill the last squad

The last squad of the V Memorial Luis Seisas is going to start inmediately, and the cut is up to 1275 pins. It's true that the lanes are not difficult at all, but the cut perhaps won't be over 1300. Between the curre 1275 and 1304 we have 8 spots, so..

Serge Frouvelle (France) after his 1340 of the second squad has just finished with an impressive 1415, just 5 pins far from the best reentry. And, on the last game, he let twice the 7-10 split!!

If you are luck enough of not beeing on a weird pair, will find the lanes pretty easy. The reaction is exteme on the very first frames, right, but not as bad as I feared and not as hard as I remembered from my last year experience. And the pins, as we supossed, seems fakes..

I had a very good start (190-237-232-215), but I got lost and couldn't manage my breaks so finished just 10 over. Bad business because I was there!

The most important thing is not failing in one game. 190 is ok, but 150... William Medellín had a couple of 230's and a high game of 267 and finished just 55 over. It's easy to link up strikes, but leaving splits as well if you don't manage speed and lenght.

Needing 1310 is pretty tough recovering from a 160. So hard.

The last squad is full too. I am playing now so please just wait for the final score when I finish

Fridays' results and Saturday's report

Finally here we are. After a short but early riser trip I can already upload not just the results, but some extra info as well. I hope it helps all our readers that are not yet or won't be at all here in Bilbao.

First of all, the scores.

As we can see, the cut will be high. There are four more squads today and right now it is in 1228 (as it was in Coruña a few weeks ago). And 150 more squads to be count yet..

The oil pattern is, or at least seems, the same of the last year. That's it, mid oil ammount (18,64 ml) but a very strong backend reaction. Especially in the first game, when players with more revs (Rascadores!!) has lots of problems to hit the pocket regularly.

Fortunately, it takes some times but the reaccion gets slow. It is still necessary using pearl balls and high speed, but is not as bad as before.

146 players have already bowled and 45 of them are over par (with handicap) and 16 of them over 1300.

However, something strange happens. Only Aitor Seisas, in the top 8, has 10 or less of handicap. It's weird because, normally, with easy lane conditions high average bowlers (0 handicap) use to take up the first places.

Actually, there are 7 of them among the top 24. The first one is Javi Moreno, with 1336. The pins over here are really soft so it happens that with good shoots the ball hits to hard and you can leave solid 7-8-910's

I'm not prety sure of why it happens. I'll check out this squad and I'm bowling on the next one and will tell you why top bowlers are not scoring high enough with some field-work.

By the moment we can report that Daniel Machos has a very strong stat, with 230 and 248. He was a little bit afraid during practice time because his reaction was too hard (he wish having my Cherry Vibe), but rich now it's ok and he is performing pretty well. He's playing the third arrow and, during this 4th game, his reaction is smooth. Outcome? 234 for him. Starting with 712 is always a gret business. As it is a 278 game. Tito Cuevas opened with the front nine but let a solid 10 pin frustrated his 300's expectatives.

UPDATE: MASSIVE TITO CUEVAS

His performance is unbeliavable. This 278 on the third game was excelents, sure, but he had 234 and 257 as well, so he is 175 over par. By the moment...

Following him there some other players, leaded by Machón (+140), José Luis Ricote (+50) and Carlos Sánchez Garnica (+47). All of them scratch, of course.

The lanes look pretty much under control now. It's may be just an illusions, because it's obvious that we are not talking about tough conditios. But now the ball has more lenght and a smooth reaction, not having a 90º-turn at 50 feet.

THE SCORES

I have already uploaded the PDF with the last score. Fantastic Tito Cuevas, leader os the squad with 1390 and Machon's 1361.

I am gonna play now so don't wait any more comments untill the squad ends.

Sport project

Despite it comes too late, here it is the Sport Project (Proyecto Deportivo) of the Spanish Bowling for the current season.

What's that? Basically the project outlines the season's tournaments and the way the National Ranking will be form. That's it, the requierements in games, points, average, minimum etc

You can read the 6-pages circular on the Federation's site.

You can read the results on losrascadores.com or click right here.

As mush as possible well' try to update the scores daily and to provide some info about lanes and performance. We'll arrive to Bilbao during the weeked and, once there, will cover the even more in deep.

UPDATED

We have just uploaded today's (Monday) scores. Great day for Phong Hoang. His squad, 1375 (hdcp included) catapult him to the top of the list.

He is playing pretty good in the last times. He did well in Vigo, he played pretty good last weekend during the National League and yesterday as well.

You can see the scores, here

Los Rascadores in Facebook

In the last two weeks, Los Rascadores have been sending, via Facebook, a weekly report with news and information on Spanish bowling, both in Spanish and English

We have created as well a Facebook Group called Los Rascadores that, by the moment, has more than 20 members, most of them not Spaniards.

As it seems that in the short run Los Rascadores won't become an English site, we'll do as much as possible to spread our circulation beyond the Spanish speaking world.

Everyone is welcomed to this Facebook group. But if you don't have and don't plan to have an account on FB you can read the reports on www.talktenpin.net

Our friends of the English site are uploading our reports inmediately after we send them in order to the world audience to notice what's going on over here. And, even if you don't believe it, there are so many interested indeed!

You can check already David Barrio's victory on the I Torneo Galaxy and the report on the First stage of the Spanish National League, with Marcial Ovide's 300 game and Manfred Zabel's great performance.

Welcome to everybody

As far as it seems that in the short run LosRascadores.com won't be avaiable in English, we are trying to make some efforts to post on our blog in both Spanish and English.

For that purpose we have created this place, RascaEnglish where we will post news, results, videos and pics of Spanish and international bowling.

English is not our mother tongue so we apologyze in advance for all the (thousands of) mistakes in grammar, spelling and syntax. We'll give our best, but our main goal is to share knowledge and information, so we'll focus in the content and not in the container.

Thank you so much for your (forthcoming) patience, comments and help. All advices, suggestions and ideas are really welcomed.

We hope you enjoy this new site.
